Dr. Christie is a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor with certification in Relational Somatic Therapy, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, and additional training in Internal Family Systems Therapy. Together, these approaches harmonize to form the basis of her Embodied Psychotherapy approach. Embodiment is the practice of attending to inner sensations, which inform your emotions, thoughts and behaviours. Embodied Psychotherapy trusts the wisdom of each person's unique bodymind and innate healing intelligence, accessed through guided present moment awareness within a safe and connected therapeutic relationship. This approach rests upon 4 primary foundations: 1) a scientific understanding how the human brain and nervous system respond to traumatic stress; 2) the neurobiology of human connection, 3) mindfulness aka present-moment awareness, and 4) a 'parts' framework for understanding and organizing the human psyche, as presented by Internal Family Systems. In therapy, clients are assisted to explore their inner landscape and learn from their lived experience with curiosity, safety and non-judgment, and grow in self-awareness and resilience toward their intentions and goals. Embodied psychotherapy does not involve medication prescribing or management.
